Johanem - Johanem Blog 25 May 2013

Well here we are in the Azores high and while the sailing remains frustrating, morale remains high. The crew have continued with PT during the day, mainly today focused on book reading - well the average age is 50+. It has been very hot, sunny and calm today and so visibility has been excellent. Our eagle eyed watch crew spotted an orange object some way off and we had (joking apart) been asked to continue lookout for anything to do with missing boats from a recent storm, so we investigated. It turned out to be a large marking buoy and was duly recorded in the log. We also saw in the distance some whale activity, but it seemed different from the norm. As we approached it turned out to be a group of whales maybe 5 or 6 including a younger one which was breeching for fun. It came close to look us up and down with its head out of the water and as we left, gave us a good bye breech. Also the Johanem success in competitions continues, mainly through Ian. In addition to winning the best blog on the BVI/Bermuda leg, he also won the random competition question set by Azzura as to what the net boats participating in the SSB daily chat had in common - well done Ian, a round of beers awaits us in Horta. We are hopeful of wind tomorrow for a final few days of sailing, as we are currently motoring. Fair winds. Bye for now.

Graham
