Golden Spirit of Islay - The start - on our way

Finally  at 13:00 on Sunday 24 November we stared our Atlantic crossing.

Bands played music on the quayside as we motored slowly out of the marina in Las Palmas, a very crowded departure with 225 yachts, so very tight for space. A Spanish naval ship let off a maroon and bang we were all on our way. Crossing the starting line under sail we are hoping for a zero engine hours crossing, getting to the finish line in St. Lucia just using sail power. The sunny weather soon turned to a heavy shower with winds blowing force 4 to 5. A good bit of downwind sailing, with twin headsails. And now at 4 in the afternoon we hardly have any wind at all.  The sun is out again and we are all drying out. Currently virtually becalmed, never mind we only have 2690 miles to go!
