Aspen - Log 12 Friday 6 Dec; Sea Berths

When we are at sea we use our sea berths - cocoon like cloth enclosures
that secure us to the two settees that are our berths where we sleep and
relax in the main salon. Maria likes the starboard side and Steve gets
the port side.

The Admiral's side is neatly covered with a sheet, blankets and pillows.
The shelf above her berth has medicines, eye drops, hair clips, hair
brushes, a crucifix, and her DVD player with a collection of movies. At
the top of the movie collection is the movie "The Devil Wears Prada".
If Maria is watching this number one movie then Captain Steve knows
things are really bad outside! For some reason this movie gives Maria
comfort and helps to calm her nerves, maybe a little.

The Captain's side is not quiet as neat. A sheet is half on and mostly
off the settee, depending on the sea state that day. On the Captain's
shelf above his berth there are boat parts and boat repair manuals.
Split rings, cotter pins, screws, nuts, bolts, pieces of wire and about
12 DC cords and plugs to keep everything onboard charged, especially the
Admiral's DVD player are also there!

The DVD player helps pass the endless days at sea for Admiral Maria
while she is in her cocoon down below. Captain Steve on the other hand
spends most of his time in the cockpit, staring at the rolling seas as
far as the horizon, thinking of what might break next on Aspen and if he
has enough boat parts to fix it!
