Azzurra - Day 21 – Pina Colada

Position Saturday, 14.12.2013 12:00 UTC: 15”04’.927 N, 055”22’.674 W
DTW St. Lucia: 327 sm
Two more nights and we will be on landfall in Rodney Bay, St. Lucia.

Everyone is ready for a rum punch and a pina colada. However there is still some mileage to go. And what should we expect? Of cause, strong wind with 30 knots; couldn’t it be only 15 to 20 knots? As a result the sea looks wonderful, high waves 5 meter high and rough surface. No sunshine so far. This kind of weather we most probably will have also during the next two days, except the sun will show up. Although we all are used to the shaking and rolling meanwhile, we rather would like a calme sea and sunshine. During the night we ran thru a lot of squalls, making us busy in reefing the main whenever we where near the squall. We only run with the the main since the Genoa cannot be used before it will be repaired. It shows two serious cuts. We hope they will be able to repair it in St. Lucia. The main is reefed to about 60 percent. Gybing in strong wind is another challenge. We need all 4 crewmembers to have a successful course change without damaging anything. The generator seems to be very reliable. Two times it was shut of by himself, making us a little bit nervous. We could not find any problem up to now, the Gen still runs perfect. We also have no fuel problem which would limit the run time. The whole crew is showing their respect to Franz, he does not give up cooking; the disgusting circumstances do not impress him at all. By the way, during one of the mast climb ups I lost my most important tool, my Leatherman. I marked the position on the Map.

On behalf of the green crew
Manfred
