Exody - Day 15 - November 25th - Plenty Water - No Wind

A promising dawn morphed into an unexpectedly overcast day with near 100% cloud cover. Most squalls missed us until late afternoon when I encouraged all on board to take advantage of the torrential rain for an alfresco cockpit shower. Old fashioned I know in these days of high output watermakers but our own model with a miserly output of 5 litres per hour is strictly for drinking! We refilled our main tank today from the several containers carried on deck and below- so now know we are using about 3-4 litres per person per day as planned.

The wind petered out late afternoon so we furled the sail and motored for a spell to maintain progress until it returned after dinner. My crude calcs show that if we drop below 2 knots then the ARC engine hours penalty is worth taking - quite apart from the other benefits of crew morale! We are now back up to 5.5 knots plus under poled out genny alone - our sail plan for the last three days with the wind directly UOA (Up our...). Exody could do with more canvas (and speed) on this point of sail for winds much less than 20 knots - so will be adding a foresail if the wind drops.

Our days run for today (day six of this leg) was 132 miles and the routeing now begins to take us slightly south of west 'downhill' to St Lucia 1200 miles (and 9/10 days)away. The chartplotter shows Exody 1200 miles from everywhere - Africa, Brazil, West Indies so genuinely mid Atlantic- if not quite mid crossing! Its only the second day we have seen no other ARC boats

I was chef for the evening and we enjoyed a tray of baked 'needing-to-be-used' vegetables- mostly bought in Las Palmas- two and a half weeks ago. We still have leeks, aubergine, courgette, carrot, peppers and even avocado and a few tomatoes in good shape, some kept in the netting we made under the solar panels.
