Philocat Ena - day 5 - 1 spinnaker (kites) out of three left

A short update after 4 days in the ARC:

Monday, 24th: We had a great start in a rough see, sailing downwind up to 23 knots with large heavy spinnaker. Lots of rolling and rocking of boat, not a good night sleep.

Tuesday, 25th: Not too much wind south of the canary islands. Unfortunately,we lost our big spinnaker in the evening including our portside railing when everything went to sea by full speed. Stefan's foot was connected to spinnaker by rope but he luckily managed to stay on board and the injury could be mended quickly. Two holes in portside hull due to loss of stanchions but we fixed everything with ducttape and stay-afloat.

Wednesday 26th: First dolphins accompanying our journey. Winds are still light- perfect conditions for our pink spinnaker. Unfortunately it broke very soon and came down. No more large down wind sail and thus using heavy storm spinnaker.

Thursday 27th: Light winds and we are missing our large sails. Tried to fix the large spinnaker for light winds while we continued trip with remaining sails. In the evening we hoisted our repaired large spinnaker - which lasted only for an hour.

Friday 28th: 1/3 of the way is done now, less than 1800nm left to go! Better winds in the morning to gather some speed with storm spinakker - up to 20 knots. Now wind decreased almost completely and we are slowly rocking

towards Carribean. Dolphins and flying fishes around everywhere playing with our ship. Lots of blue everywhere and a sunny sky. We gave the kite another go and this time we did a much better job. Hopefully it will last for the rest of the journey.

Thank you all for following our trip!

Franziska, Stefan, Sven & Peter
