BRIZO - 13 July 2012

Today will likely be our last full day at Port Resolution on the island of Tanna, we expect to depart for Port Vila early tomorrow morning. Yesterday we participated in the formal exchange of gifts between the World ARC fleet and the residents of Port Resolution. The leaders of the village made short speeches welcoming us to their community and expressed their gratitude for our gifts. There was quite a collection of spare household and boating items donated by the fleet and it was interesting to watch the village leadership determine how the items were to be distributed among the residents. As a gesture of their appreciation the village prepared a feast for us and we dined on a wide array of local dishes, most of which were delicious, some merely interesting.

Today's main activity for us will be Kathryn and Audrey reading to their peers at the village school. Because of the country's colonial history, people living in Vanuatu generally have an ability to speak English, French and their own language and the teachers liked the idea of the children listening to English spoken by Americans.

This evening we are planning a pot-luck dinner for two boats which are leaving the Rally here in Port Resolution: GLAMOROUS GALAH which is sailing home to Brisbane; and SERENDIPITY which is going to New Zealand. We have enjoyed the friendships developed with both crews and will miss their presence as we continue on to Australia.
