Fidelis of London - Day 1 by Lonneke, 157 nm

10 minutes before the start, riggers finished working on our rigging. We
had some issues in the beginning trying to get the main sail up, but once
we did, we broke our own speed record! We went 10.8 knots on the main sail
with 2 rifs and the genoa. I´m pretty sure we only went this fast because
we were surfing on the waves! Later on, we beat this record again and went
12.1 knots using only the genoa. We had around 30 knots of wind from NE and
rather high waves. It was a bit of a rocky first day for us all. We are all
looking forward to catching the trade winds and being able to sit out in
the sun without using every muscle in our body. The good thing about being
one of the last boats to start, is the view of all the other boats sailing
away.

10 minuten voor dat we moesten starten waren de riggers klaar met onze
mast. In het begin kregen we het groote zeil niet zo makkelijk omhoog, maar
toen het wel lukte gingen we meteen 10.8 knopen. Dat record werd later nog
verbroken toen we 12.1 knopen gingen op alleen de genoa. We hadden ongeveer
30 knopen wind van Noord Oost met redelijk grote golven. Dit was niet
bepaald ideaal inslinger weer. We hebben allemaal enorm zin in een rustig
pasaat windje en een lekker zonnetje! Het was heel erg mooi om alle boten
te zien starten met al hun zeilen op.
