What a day...Pod of Hump Back Whales, Bioluminescence Dinoflagelate, Bouys in the Dark, Flying Fish...

The voyage continues. We are now getting to know each other and nicknames have stared to develop,. “Shifty” Jack, “Sneaky” Pete, “Fishfinder” John, “Steering Buoy” Sam, “Texan” Ryan, “Galeleo” Oscar. Only names needed for Jacko and Neil.

In the afternoon 50m on the starboard side, two humpback whales were spotted, by three members of one watch. A truly breath taking view, with of course no photographical evidence to back it up. But never the less the story sounds good.

“Galileo” was out on deck with the sextant again, the closing error is getting less. If all else fails we will hit the caribics as he is improving on it.

Education, continued in the evening with the appearance of Bioluminescence Dinoflagelate behind the boat. One of you out there will know what that it is, but for the others it is luminous algae.

In the middle of the night swift and nimble helmsmanship from “Steering Bouy” saw Lancelot II glide round an unmarked bouy. Further banter on this watch confirmed the names for “Sneaky” and  “Shifty”.

Watches continued to change and when we returned to deck we discovered we have a fish magnet in “Fishfinder”. The fish jumped over the boat straight into his lifejacket. He is not called fishcatcher because the fish got away. Now the part I really do not understand, as I am from Newcastle, is how a man from Seattle (similar weather to Newcastle) can be found on deck, covered in a thermal blanket as we approach the equator. I think I know the answer to that, he is not from Seattle but Texas. Welcome aboard “Texan”.

More tales of education and exploring tomorrow.

Whilst writing congratulations to Oliver back home who has started crawling, Vicky thanks for the message and Casey you better watch him

Pinch and a punch on the first day of the Month too

From all the crew – Jacko, “Steering Buoy” Sam, “Texan” Ryan, “Galileo” Oscar, “Fishfinder” John, Neil, “Sneaky” Pete, “Shifty” Jacko
