Ostrea - dr father in law

hi all,

Yesterday when we were mid Atlantic, furthest away from land, we heard a request for a scalpel and local anaestetics on channel 16 on our VHF. We reacted and with the help of our friends from Oojah, we were able to talk to the crew of SY Johanem who had a medical emergency. One of their crew members had a big triple fishhook deep into his upper lower arm and we were only 25 miles away. We decided to both alter course and meet in the middle to operate the patient and free him from the hook. In the pitch dark we (Jan and myself) rowed to the Johanem with our medical kit. It was good to be off the boat after 11 days and to meet some other people again after so long at sea. Jan injected the anaestetics and happily got the hook out after a while. We stayed for one quick beer with the very nice crew of Johanem and her skipper rowed us back to Ostrea. It was fun to suddenly be on another boat in the middle of nowhere. We are currently sailing under spinaker and have "only" 1049 miles to go to the rumpunch! We keep you posted.

Pieter
