25 Multihulls Set for ARC Crossing

22 November 2013

25 multihulls are moored in the Vela Latina basin in the Muelle Deportivo, busy preparing for their Atlantic crossing with the ARC. Amongst them are 6 Lagoon catamarans and 6 Catanas ranging in size. These types of catamaran seem to have become the favoured multihulls for offshore cruising. Other types of boats are Fontaine Pajot, Gunboat, Outremer, Privilege, Prout and Tournier Freydis.

There are a number of family boats amongst the multihulls: Jade, Cat Cocoloco and Koa. Both Koa and Cat Cocoloco hold our youngest participants, and have been sharing babysitting duties in the lead up to the start.

Comfortable cruising is the motto for catamaran sailors, and Swedish cat Mantra 2 took its time to arrive in Las Palmas starting in La Grande Motte in Southern France in April. After having cruised the Med for some months, they then visited Madeira before heading to the Canary Islands. Now they are eager to discover new shores at the other side of the Atlantic.

The smallest multihull is As You Wish, a Lagoon 380 from the British Virgin Island. At the other end of the scale, the biggest and most outstanding catamaran in ARC 2013 is Zenyatta, a Gunboat 62.
