American Spirit II - Day 168; Slow Day in Port Denarau Marina; Sunday June 22, 2014

It's Saturday in the US, Sunday here.

Up at 7:50 AM. Coffee followed by breakfast of scrambled eggs, 'breakfast sausage' (no idea what type of meat is in it - label doesn't say or too small to read) and chilled mandarin oranges with cut up bananas. Watched life boats from the cruise ship Pacific Pearl, registered in London, drop off passengers at our dingy dock. This continued all day long until 5:00 PM. We couldn't see the cruise ship because they were anchored around a point of land.

Low clouds, overcast. Cool due to no sun. I spent the morning talking to daughters and Janet back in the US on my cheap Fijian phone. Costs only $.10 per minute to call the US; versus $3.20 to my AT&T phone.

Minor work projects today. Joel used acetone and diesel fuel to clean off the tape residue from the 6 foot long port cabin window; then put new aluminum tape around the edges of the window. The window leaks a little and only in rough weather when we're taking hundreds of gallons of water across the deck at a time. I reorganized my pilot library; bleached cleaned the boat's interior surfaces with a spray bottle of bleach and water; bleached my sandals and flip flops by putting them in a bucket with bleach and water; and typed Saturday's log. Cleaning the sandals and flip flops regularly is necessary because the foam rubber in both of those foot wares must absorb oils from my feet. The end result is that I can't keep them inside the boat at night because they give off an aroma that isn't pleasant. Joel has the same problem. Must be made in China.

Tommy and Marianne from II Audeacious came by around 2:00 PM and invited us to dinner tonight. They were tied on a mooring buoy a hundred yards from us.

We took a nap from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM; showered and shaved (Joel) at 5:00 pm; and were picked up by Tommy and Marianne in their dingy for dinner ashore at 6:00 PM. Back on the boat by 9:05 PM; then watched Captain Phillips with Tom Hanks until 11:35 PM. Movie was just OK. Might have been better if the Somali language subtitles were in English instead of Chinese. (It wasn't possible to rectify this).

Read until 1:30 AM.
