Rally Portugal is a favourite for aspiring offshore cruising enthusiasts looking for a bit of adventure, but with safety in numbers.

With its emphasis on providing safety, fun and companionship between yachts and their crews to help make the offshore passage even more enjoyable, the entry list (which is still open) for this year’s Rally Portugal, is so far dominated by an adventurous contingent of happily retired Brits.

Another early start for the final race (no they are not really races however as any sailor will know – two boats sailing in the same direction immediately becomes a race). Strange looking porridge (attacked by weevils) soaked overnight proved to be disgusting so Jane had to attack the other cereals.

Leg 5 of Rally Portugal 2007 takes the fleet to Oeiras, a new marina that was opened just last year and gives excellent access by public transport to Lisbon as well as being situated in a delightful little town.

Synopsis: Low pressure is centred over Spain with a surface trough from the low into Finisterre. Saturday a front moves into Biscay with low pressure to the west of Portugal. Another low develops in Biscay on Sunday with surface troughs moving wet to east.
