Farewell Celebrations in Lagos for ARC Europe 2024

Enjoying a beautiful evening at Ins Tinto restaurant hosted by Marina de Lagos, ARC Europe 2024 participants were welcomed with drinks on the terrace followed by a traditional Portuguese menu. Celebrating their Atlantic crossing form west to east covering an average route of 3,890 NM it was a fitting end to a phenomenal achievement.

In recognition of their arrival into Lagos each boat received a commemorative plate from Ingrid & Martinho Fortunato, the marina managers. Following this the results for Leg 3, Azores to Lagos, mainland Portugal, was announced.

The Multihull division was announced first with 3rd place going to Ohana of Newport, 2nd place to Moxie and first place to the Seawind, Queso Grande II. Lance and Sherri were delighted with their achievements, and we congratulate all the Multihulls for their speedy arrivals into each destination.

Cruising Division B was announced next with Sequel coming in 3rd, Ariel 2nd and Sea Hayes taking 1st place. The room was full of great applause and deservedly so.

Continuing with loud cheers, the Cruising Division A was won by Kenneth and his wonderful crew on Bistari. Many congratulations. 2nd place was won by Ville on the speedy Hanse 531, White Night, and 3rd place went to Howard on Lilli Mae, an Oyster 56.

Event Manager Andrew Pickersgill recapped on the fleet’s journey which for many of the yachts began in St Maarten back in early May. Over the last 8-weeks the fleet have experienced the turquoise and colourful island of Bermuda, explored the beautiful fertile islands of the Azores and been made to feel hugely welcome in Lagos.

Suzana Tetlow, Operations Director, also spoke and conveyed her thanks on behalf of World Cruising Club to Marina de Lagos. Thanking both Ingrid and Martinho for their continued support over a great number of years, she extended her thanks to the team in the marina office who have also worked hard to ensure the fleets arrival went smoothly. The marina office was presented with a few goodies to enjoy in the office.

During their time in Lagos, happy hours have been enjoyed, coastlines explored and full moon partying at Linda Beach Bar have all be a successful and fitting end to an enormous achievement and above all a fabulous experience being party of a rally.

For some, their Mediterranean adventures are just beginning. Others are now home from crossing the world or back from a long stint in the Caribbean. Whatever their plans, the yellow shirts and dedicated team back in Cowes, wish everyone in the fleet all the best and we hope our sailing paths cross again in the future.
