Calypso left its home port of St Peter Port, Guernsey on
Monday 24th June with Phil, John and myself aboard. We split the
journey into 3 main stages, (Guernsey to Povoa de Varzim, Povoa to Lisbon,
Lisbon to Gran Canaria), and finally arrived in Las Palmas on Wednesday
11th September having visited 17 other ports and covered 1650nm on
the way.
The journey was largely uneventful, mostly motor sailing, and
it was only when cruising down the Portuguese coast and crossing from Madeira
that we had some decent sailing. We were back to motoring as we approached Las
Palmas.
We now have 4 weeks to complete the final preparations before
setting off on ‘our voyage of a lifetime’.
