Last week whilst still in Lanzarote, we took delivery of our
new ISO 9650 approved liferaft. But what
to do with our old one? It was not ISO
compliant, so had a negligible re-sale value.
We decided to inflate it and practice "abandon ship"
procedures to give the kids a better idea of what a life-raft would really be
like and the proper procedure for leaving the boat in case of an
emergency. After the serious bits were
over and done with, the poor life-raft became a trampoline - landing pad -
floating play house - bouncy castle for the rest of the day. It gave us a good idea of what would work
best in the event of having to leave the boat and also how uncomfortable those
floating paddling pools really are!
The day after we disposed of the poor abused raft which had
over-night lost most of its air (scary) and set sail for Tenerife. We arrived to San Andras where both the pilot
book and charts had an anchorage marked.
After a pleasant night we were greeted the following morning by a visit
from the port police. "No Anchor
Here!!" Ok, where can we anchor
then? - Answer - "Go to the Marina".
So we are now in the very friendly Marina Tenerife waiting for our visitors and
getting plenty of maintenance work done in the meantime. And we have met two other ARC boat here as
well, Blue Dolphin and Sinus.
