Solstice - Gulf stream crossing
We are safely on the other side but it was a wild ride.
Previous:
Status update, we are traversing the gulf stream heading ESE at 5+ knots. Seas are 8-10ft with mostly a regular period. Roughly 125 miles SE of the start. Virginia is a long way back.
Ray joked that may change the boat's name to "Shaken, not Stirred". But then again, we had to do a 360 to unwrap a fouled genoa last night so maybe it should be "Shaken and Stirred".
We cleared the bridge tunnel Saturday and sure enough as predicted, the winds went from 0 to 20 knts within an hour. Just about the time we'd get the first reef in, it was time to reef again. Finally we got her settled in for a nice ride. Nobody slept much, but that's changing as exhaustion sets in.
Somehow we wound up with three quarts of mayonaise in stores. We are pleased to report that we haven't run out of it yet.
