Windleblo - Madeira

Six hundred downwind miles and four nights from Gibraltar, we landed on Madeira. Windleblo led us here, seamlessly surfing the three meter swell as we practiced watchkeeping and arranged the sheets for best downwind effect.

What's more, Martin is now Jules. His ARC alias revealed itself about 300 miles offshore as a consequence of a misheard monologue. Martin asked, "Who is Julie?" as the Coach told a story about a friend with a totally different name. Somehow Julie morphed into Jules, and Martin's new handle.

That settled, we pushed on to Madeira, taking a berth in a marina on the island's west end. Our two layover days were spent with a windshield tour of the island's spectacular north coast and populated south, then prepping the boat for on next push, a 300 mile hop to the Canaries.

Force Six winds just behind the beam are forecast starting tomorrow night, promising a fast crossing. Las Palmas here we come.
