Free Spirit - Monday 25th November
Monday 25th November
So all started well yesterday but it nearly ended in
disaster!
We almost had a collision with another boat! Everything had been fine until darkness
came and we switched on the navigation lights as did all the other boats around
us. Suddenly there was shouting
coming from another boat which was heading straight across our bow! Peter was on the helm and miraculously
he managed to yank the boat around his stern avoiding disaster by inches! So close! So frightening! I hope this is the closest we ever get
to a disaster. We spent most of the
night trying to find black space as far from other boats as possible and by
morning the fleet was well spread so that by this evenings watch we only saw one
other boat.
The weather is the Atlantic so far has been a bit grey and chilly
by day with an inky black sky at night and almost nothing to see. Conversation on watch is a bit limited
with all the other noises going on.
I say to Peter I can hear operatic voices. He says Its just the wind in the
rigging. I say Is that you
snoring? He says No its the
hydro generator. I am not so
sure!
