Hello from the mighty Incisor!
Today has been a beautiful day with 10knts of wind and not a
cloud in the sky – this is definitely what we signed up for! And the day
is set to get better with chicken fajitas for lunch! We have even had bacon
sandwiches for breakfast so don’t worry that we are starving out here
because we are eating like kings. The motto on board for the food is, when its
gone it gone (WIGIG). We have passed a large pirate looking ship today which
got everyone all very excited with cameras at the ready with a lot of waving
going on, it’s only been 4 days and we are already getting excited to see
other people!
Last night was light and a little chilly, but when you have
to get up at 3 in the morning to come on watch and you are a little grumpy
because you are out of your snugly bunk it is all made better by Frans’
jokes. He was having the whole crew in fits of laughter. He went off watch and
came back on 3 times to tell a joke to keep moral high. The first two were very
very funny, but we were sceptical of the last one as it was lost in translation...I’d
like to think the Dutch version was funnier because in English it just didn’t
make any sense! The night was also helped by watching the dolphins chase the
squid/jelly fish which were lighting up the sea and mixed with the phosphorescent
it looked fantastic!
We have lost our little passenger Dave, presumed dead, but we still have hope
for him. We think he got frightened off when we took the spinnaker down last
night, it may have been all a bit too much for him.
We now have a new record holder for speed – Katharine got
us up to 16.2knts and she wasn’t even breaking a sweat. We are now doing
9knts in 11knts of wind and are about 350 miles from Cape Verde so all is well
on board.
Hope you’re not all too cold back home!
