Free Spirit - Thursday 28th November
I think we must be in the doldrums. Although spirits are high, the sea is
dead calm and there is no wind. We
motor all day in a hazy existence. The fishing lines are put out and then the
Captain orders bacon and eggs, just in case we dont catch a fish any time
soon. A turtle pops up to say a
quick hello and the dolphins drop by and then
we see three whales! They are some way off the boat but the
splash they make is spectacular.
At the end of the day the wind picks up a little and so with full
sails and a calm sea we manage first 4 knots out of 8 knots of wind, building to
7 out of 10. Through the night the
wind gets stronger and stronger and the boat goes faster and faster (SOG 9
kts!) We must be flying! Could these be the trade
winds?
