Abraxas - 01/12/13 Quest for the golden fleece
So since our last update, we have had an interesting time weather wise.
Yesterday we had stormy conditions, gusting 37 knots at its best. We had big
waves and decided that we would have to run with it and in order to do this, we
needed to loose the main completely and have sailed since with just the
headsail. Last night we had thunder and lightning, with no boats around us
at all so it really did feel like we were sailing into the darkness with nothing
in sight. We caught another fish today but sadly it escaped just as we came to
recover it onboard the boat. Never mind there are still plenty of reserves
in the freezer so we are not reliant on our fishing exploits.
Today is a beautiful day with about 15knots of breeze and brilliant
sunshine, a total contrast from the past 36 hours where we have all been heavily
rained on. Sleeping has not been easy either as the boat has been so rolly
and unstable it is simply not possible to get into a rhythm. Today we are
working through some of the jobs that were not possible over the past few
days. These have included cleaning the heads, washing up and recovering
the broken lazy jacks from up the mast. Igor has just returned from up
there and is full of stories and has taken several photographs in his inevitable
style.
Karen keeps suggesting that we play a game in evening but the boys are not
up for it yet. Give time and i’m sure the boredom will kick in.
As we type, there are plenty of flying fish jumping from the ocean (Nick
just wishes one would jump on his hook).
Hope all well with you all at home. Nick and rest of team
Abraxas
