Blue Ocean - Day 16: Update

We just logged a new sailing record for Blue Ocean – 221nm in 24 hours (previous record 220nm in 2011). Plus a new top speed; 18.7 knots whilst surfing down waves.

 

We have been sailing hard day and night – it certainly helps that we have a crew of nine – but we have also been flying as much canvas as we dare. Luckily, the early loss of the Code 0 hasnt seemed to affect our performance much as we have been able to use our spinnaker in light winds.

 

We are sailing to win but have been slightly frustrated by the fact that Fleet Viewer and ARC reports are showing out of date positions due to the failure of our Yellowbrick Tracker, which was beyond our control.

 

Anyway, let us hope that our finish time is recorded correctly! At the moment we think that we will finish in the early hours of the 11th Dec (boat time).
