Brendan is well experienced now in moving the two genoas from reaching to running. To go from reaching to running the jib sheet and the lazy/back up jib sheet have both to be moved out of the amidships deck tracks to outside the stantions and the jib sheets put through the blocks at the ends of the twin spinnaker booms. This involves clambering about very carefully on the plunging foredeck, safety line clipped to the jackstays. 

 

We learned of the need for these blocks at one of the ARC seminars in Grand Canaria. On the passage down from Lagos to Lanzarote we had badly damaged the jib sheets by chafe as they ran directly through the pole ends. Thankfully we have no sign of chafe up to now with this new arrangement.
