We are definitely in cruising mode. Yesterday afternoon we were called up
on the VHF by Patrick Henri of Switzerland in the multihull Allure to ask if we
were OK because he thought we were going so slowly as he was overtaking us.
Brendan, on watch at the time, immediately set more sail!
Anne said to tell him that the Skipper was opening a bottle of vintage
champagne and had slowed down in order not to spill any.
Anne is not upset by her damp clothes. She is used to it and enjoying
herself too much to notice. The passage from Las Palmas to Rodney Bay will be
just over 3000 miles and Anne thinks it is one of the greatest experiences of
her life although more challenging than she expected, the waves being higher and
the wind stronger. She has been very good about squalls and broaches and is
offering them up for the Holy Souls as instructed by Sister Marie Therese. Last
night while Anne and the Skipper were on watch there was a squall of 39.80 knots
which flattened Shelduck on the starboard side and washed away the bottom
supports of our official number. Both watches were soaked by breaking waves over
the stern.
Although Anne has been an excellent First Mate and Watch Mate and is
smiling nearly all the time she is not sure she wants to do another ARC, just
yet. She is looking forward to terra firma now 150 miles away after 22 days at
sea.
Skipper recovering quickly while still sore.
Sightings: gannet type bird with brown wings diving for fish. Multihull
Allure. Some flying fish.
