Ca Canny - ARC Portugal Ca Canny - 5 Days to go
Only 5 days to go before the start of ARC
Portugal - it is not a race it is
the rally - although the unofficial
definition of a yacht race is “ 2 yachts
going in the same direction”.
So off to Plymouth tomorrow by train and the Ca Canny crew (Steve
Chalker,
Neil Hemming, Ian Lake, Stuart Innes and me) join over the next few
days.
We sail on Sunday morning. The crew change over in Porto (Portugal)
12/13
Jun where Brian Hunkin, Ian Pringle and Tony Fraser join. Final boat
safety
inspections by the World Cruising Club, weather and route briefings
on
Saturday. The rally start is on Sunday on the Plymouth Royal
Corinthian
Yacht Club start line just below Plymouth Hoe.

The boat
will be carrying a Yellowbrick satellite GPS tracker, as all the
boats on the
rally do - that means you can view where we are on the trip -
even the speed
we are doing. 550nm will take 4/5 days at sea at an average
of 6 knots -
weather permitting! More details can be found on the World
Cruising Club
website - some yachts will be going on to do the Atlantic
crossing in
November and take part in the World ARC. Ca Canny will be
stopping in
Lagos (Algarve) for a year and sailing locally before the
next
adventure.
If you look at the link below now it shows last years
rally and the
progress of each boat - they had perfect weather and were able
to take a
direct route. Tracking for this years event should start on Sunday
morning.
