Hello,
On day 6, I was on watch (early in the morning) with Isabelle and I saw dolphins on the bow of Morning Haze performing aerobatics. That will always be a magic moment for the entire crew... too bad Demi, Rebecca and David were asleep. We always feel very privilege to witness such beauty. We also found two flying fish on deck...Demi loves them and always want to see them before we put them back to sea. And now that we are talking about fish... well what can I say... we caught another Mahi-Mahi with one of Rebecca's homemade lure. In the afternoon, Demi showed me how to make my own lure so I can catch a fish myself... we had lots of fun. That night I stayed up with Dave and Isabelle for their respective watch. At this time of year and at this latitude... the night is long...12 hours...at least the moon showed up once in a while making it a little less dark.
Yesterday (day 6), the wind settled in the afternoon with a nice sunshine warming the crew of Morning Haze. Rebecca, Demi and myself took our water samples for the research project on Microplastic and filled the log with the GPS position, water temperature, etc... In the afternoon, the boat sailed well above 7 knots and everybody was reading in the cockpit glancing once in a while at the ocean... One needs to have experienced these moments of pure joy to fully understand the feeling I have inside... we are speechless. We are not dreaming of doing it.... we are actually doing it... living it! At 1700, the line goes out in fury.... Yes... my first fish... another Mahi-Mahi! Caught with the lure that Demi helped me with the day before. So we are now at 6 Mahis since the start... we will have to stow the rod away for a couple of days as our freezer is full... I really hope we can get a Wahoo or Tuna before we get to St. Lucia...
As for today... nothing to report except that the weather is unsettled. We are going downwind with one reef in the main and poled genoa. It is very squally and we hope it will clear by tomorrow. We have not seen a boat on AIS since Seaster yesterday afternoon. I will report back in a couple of days.
Cheers,
Sailor Ted aboard Morning Haze, standing by on 16
