I have to be a bit nice and easy going today, the crew has been working
hard. In the night squalls came and we needed to get all sails down.
When the weather was bright again in the morning all was ready to make a go
at setting the genua. It all went so very well. Down she went, halyard changed,
and we started hoisting. Up she goes, and up she goes, a little down, and up
again ... and then no further. She was stock 1 meter from top ..... you should
have seen the crew! they were so sad. Well what to do, secure the sail again,
and just be happy that the genua and the forstay did not break. Though
totally exhausted they set the main sail and we could all “relax” and enjoy the
sun and a well deserved cup of tea (they are getting kind of English) and a wrap
with beef. Thus well feed they checked the ARC mail and were not surprised to
see that the other Danes are ahead of us now! Well hopefully they all will
continue in good speed and without problems so that we can meet them in St.
Lucia. The crew looks at it this way, we have an additional holiday here
at this beautiful sea, no stress, plenty of food and good company. And I’m
sure there will be people to wellcome us in St. Lucia and the crew will be
happy. It seems to me that they sometimes wonder, why are we doing this? Their
simple answer is, it’s a challenge, it’s life and it’s gives us strenght. They
cannot walk on the water but they can enjoy the enviroment and power of
nature.
And never give up. In the afternoon they found a small fock/jip which is
now set and stabelizes me and we are saving electricity as the autopilot now has
help from the jib.
When writing this the crew is on deck having a snack and a beer which they
deserved after a hard days work.
Soon it’s supper time and the nightly watch starts again.
1600 nm to St. Lucia.
