Today I write the log from the cockpit using my iPad. It communicates with the Iridium Go using WiFi. George is at the Helm And Andy is sitting across from me. The others are fast asleep in their bunks, as it is ten to midnight local time.
Today we fixed a couple of things. The watermaker is now producing approximately 1,5 gallons per hour. We only turn it on when the engine is running because it uses significant amounts of electric power. The engine is run twice a day anyway to recharge the batteries and charge the freezer holding plate using the engine driven compressor.
The other item has been needing attention for a few days. Every time the steering wheel turned a louder and louder screach came from deep within the cockpit floor. At times it sounded like whale vocalizations and I could lay in my bunk and imagine hearing distant echoes or replies from whales !
After opening up the cavernous locker on the starboard side and pulling out all manner of equipment, sails, storm parachute anchors, and other treasures, I was able to climb down with lubricants to apply to the steering system.
So alas, the whales have left us for a while.
Good night
