2 weeks down and getting closer....under 400 miles to go if we can keep the
crazy Russian following a bearing
The last 24 hours has seen some learning curves for all us crew. After
bobbing up and down in a wind hole for what seemed like weeks the clouds loomed
dark and ominous ahead of us and the Green watch took to the decks for a nice
power shower, with cool as hell Tim at the helm with his cuppa, whilst everyone
braved the storm.
After a good soaking of the main galley and little dry clothing left, Ollie
appeared in his baywatch shorts to wolf whistles and much joy. From action
man to lifeguard babe and much reddening of the face.
The wake up call came for the Beautiful Watch to decant from bunks post
deciding to wrap the spinnaker around and around and around the forestay with a
pretty little bow as an early Crimbo present for the skipper. Baywatch
dude appeared like a dream from his bunk to take on his new title of “Action
Man” to climb the mast and unwrap the present. Crazy Russian boy has
decided to be my personal porter and insisted on following me up to the foredeck
to carry my spinnaker bag for me. Dropped, re-hoisted, dropped again and
then re-hoisted and 1.5 hours later we settled in for some beautiful sailing in
the hot, hot, hot sun and some brekkie of coco pops and gummy bears.
In other news, the romance has definitely died between Rich and I as he
made it clear that my coffee was simply not up to his standards and threw it
over the edge of the boat and ate the last gummy bear. I think it is time
to finally concede that he and the crazy Russian are definitely better
suited.
There was tremendous excitement yesterday at the sight of a cargo ship and
2 birds flying close to the boat. I think it may be just about the right
time to hit land soon’ish (not literally of course). Mixed feelings of
almost being able to taste that G&T/rum/beer/presecco and wanting to finally
be able to sleep without wedging myself in between my duffel bag and whatever
clothing I can find to stop the sensation of being in a tumble drier and the
thought that this has been an experience of a lifetime so far and the desire to
stay out on the ocean for just a little bit longer.
Still lots and lots and lots and lots of water and sun and more sun and
more sun and no sight of land but super cool
