OOROO1 - Straight Lines and Tight Lines !!
Well we’ve crossed the Tropic of Cancer, sailed over the Mid Atlantic Ridge
and the Canary Basin, crossed waters as deep as 6,380 metres and are now sailing
just below 15 degN. Celebration last night as we got our first sunset on the
Atlantic, shortly lived by another rain cloud, but we’ve had a spectacular full moon and beautiful starry
nights with phosphorous waters. 2200 songs on Floss’s ipod and
we’ve been through them about four times. Fishing has
really picked up now !! Two Mahi Mahi on board yesterday with Tess’s name all
over them, one 92cm and one 65cm both at about 6 knots. Score is 14-9-5. We had
a Captains lunch yesterday with beef teriyaki surprise served. Many discussions have been had about the
curvature of the earth and how it affects our direction and they have all ended
generally with the same answer. Let’s just keep going and see what happens
!! Note to self : The shortest distance
between two points is not necessarily a straight line…. Still not much company
out here. The occasional yacht has wandered into the 10nm zone but gone just as
quick. Live action on the Blog as the rod just went off and Mike just
brought in another 68 cm Mahi Mahi. Felt like a 200 ton tuna cause of all the
weed. Lots of fun !! 15-10-6. On the lookout today for ODAS – Ocean Data
Acquisition System (the weather buoy that measures sea temp, current, wave
height, swell, wind etc). Would hate to run over that
