Tune of the Day: You stole the sun from my
heart - Manic Street Preachers
Day 17. Less than 350 miles to go and it looks
like its a straight run into St. Lucia with steady trade winds behind us.
We had a fast, albeit slightly tense, nights' sailing last night and Melinda
performed well for us until the squalls started coming in at 0200 hours, at
which point we put both her and ourselves to bed for the night. This
morning we brought her back into action and she's been flying most of the day,
hurling us towards land.
The great thing about closing in on land is that we
are now starting to spot other yachts. Having spent over 2 weeks out here
with little more than the odd whale and lots of flying fish, we are now spotting
our fellow yachtsmen out on the horizon. This morning we had two yachts
tracking us, about 4-5 miles away, both much bigger than us moving along
effortlessly across the ocean waves. Goodness knows what they must
have made of this 40 footer barrelling along at 8 kts with a spinnaker up
playing the Manic Street Preachers....
Perhaps our most positive news is that, having run
out of rum, we've now found a bottle on Gin, so it'll be sun downers again this
evening...Minkey mas made apple crumble, hooray!!
