American Spirit II - Day 455; Air Drop Picture Day & Dinner with Nexus at Doolitte's; Monday, April 6, 2015
One year ago today:
"Day 93; 7th Green Flash and Sailed 170 Miles; Sunday, April 6, 2014. Slept pretty good. Stephen awakened me for 6:00 AM watch. Missed great sunrise 6:10 AM. Was down below shaving, making coffee. Might have missed a green flash.
At 7:00 AM the wind was 14 knots and our boat speed 6.0 knots over the ground. At 8:00 AM I took out the reefs in the mainsail and jib. Our speed immediately increased 1 1/2 knots. We need to sail at 7.0 knots to get to Ahe Monday in the daylight."
****************************
Up at 7:20 AM. Joel up at 8:15 AM and Darlene at 8:30 AM.
Breakfast at 9:15 AM: bacon, 3 eggs, potato and chilled fruit cocktail. During breakfast Darlene says that like Joel, Heidi loves to row the dingy. She relates a story when Heidi was young and got in a dingy with 2 boys...who didn't know how to row. So she did. Who knew?! Joel says he turned into a 'listener' a long time ago because no one listens to him when he talks.
I go to Nexus at 10:30 AM so I can give Laurie my Galapagos pictures that I took when we were on the Fragata cabin cruiser 5 day trip. Once I get to Nexus Laurie shows me how to 'air drop' pictures between I Pads and my phone and my I Pad. Amazing; bluetoothing pictures between Apple products! I'm there for 4 hours, returning to American Spirit at 2:40 PM.
We drop off our laundry at the marina office at 2:40 PM, then off to the shower. Later we're reading in the cockpit; then I type one log from 4:35 PM to 5:43 PM.
At 5:55 PM we leave for dinner on Nexus's dingy (really a center console motor boat). We travel across the small lagoon or bay to a restaurant called Doolittle's. Its a great location. The food is good but the service is suspect. The sun set about 6:18 PM, but there is no green flash. The atmospheric conditions just weren't right. We're back on the boat at 8:58 PM. I proof 3 logs before sending them out at 9:38 PM.
We're all reading after dinner in the cockpit;. The first to 'fold,' go to bed, is Darlene at 10:40 PM; followed by me at 10:50 PM. Joel is still up either reading or playing solitaire on his smart phone.
