Considering the only sail we had yesterday was the
Genoa we managed to keep up a good pace throughout the night. Good!
Yes..but..the boat was heeling and tossing violently through the waves.
Moving anywere required iron grip determination. So I held on tightly as I
came down the steps from the cockpit but at the bottom, although I did not let
go, I twirled round the corner in to the galley. Bash! Ouch! !
The pain of it all!. (I now have the bruise to prove it). No one heard
me. Every one was "sleeping" apart from Peter who was still on our watch
in the cockpit.
When it came to sleeping - that was another
matter. The relentless clanging and banging of the unfurled rigging alone
might have been enough to cause sleep deprivation but the challenge to stay in
bed was much greater! The knack was to cling on whilst sleeping!
Mmmmm...Peter and I spent most of the night either sliding down and out of bed
or giving up and sitting cosily squashed on the chair at the bottom of the bed
out of which we had to prise ourselves to stand up again!
We were all a bit tired this morning. Louis
got his lie in which he had missed yesterday, but not his breakfast in bed as he
had requested for Sunday.....after all it was not Sunday! It was a
horrible wet Monday morning and we would have to wait for calmer weather before
getting on with the repair to the mainsail. By lunch time the weather had
faired up and after polishing off the last remains of our tuna, all the guys got
to work, screwing, sawing, stitching, sticking to get Mr Mainsail ready to go
back into action. Hopefully, that will be tomorrow, if the sea is calm
enough and the wind not too strong.
Michael did a spot of fishing today. He
caught a sea bird who was following in our wake. Fortunately it was just
the line which had caught up in his feathers and we were able to rescue him to
fly again. Just like Mr Mainsail...we hope.
