It
is day two of leg two and the cockpit’s temperature has
reached 30 degrees celsius. Yikes! After a few cloudy weeks in Las Palmas and
Mindelo, our putting on sunscreen-game is a little off. You know the feeling –
when the morning is turning into noon, the sun is getting warmer and you’ve just
finished putting on sun lotion, which have had time to dry, when a wave hits you
from the side and it was all for nothing. You start the process all over again,
knowing there’s really no use because now the sun is so hot that the lotion
won’t have time to dry before you start sweating it all off. Quite good
fun.
It’s
been quite the productive day – we’ve jibbed once, had a stroll on deck to peel
off the poor flying fish, the skipper has yoghurt in the making and we’ve even
taken something definitely worth calling a shower, to rinse off those layers of
sunscreen. We’ve also come to the decision to start our Christmas calendar early
this year – a tradition from home where we make each other small gift calendars
as a way of counting down to Christmas Eve. It’s not supposed to start for
almost two weeks, but let’s face it, the jo of counting down to something will
be much bigger while we’re at sea, than when we’re not.
Erin,
who has not been feeling to good the past 24 hours, is staring to get color back
in her face and the fellow stomach issues having a visit in LEA is starting to
leave us alone. All though the flying fish are making more and more exciting
appearances; just a few minutes ago we found one on the bathroom floor after
forgetting to close the window. Poor thing didn’t even see it coming. The
plotter is telling us we have less than 2000 miles left, so any minute now we
can start gazing for land.
