Mojeka - Transatlantic Day 6

15:00 UTC Monday Nov. 22, 2015
Position: 15.650195N, 38.761097W

a ROLLERCOASTER!

is nothing compared to this. How is it that a predicted 9ft swell looks like 4-5 meters when you are in it? Since this morning the sea is rough, whitecaps on rolling mountains and huge swells the boat sinks into deep, Everest behind you, then the boat slowly rises, turning to the left, tilting 12degrees, going over the crest, turning at least 45degrees to the right and rolling down the other side of the wave tilting 12degrees the other way. All the time the constant din of a gushing, swirling, rolling sea.
Mojeka is taking it much better than we are. We are not seasick in the least (not even Monique!!) but the constant visual and auditory input is extremely tiring and we feel pretty much exhausted. Moving around the boat is a challenge, if one of those rollers catches you in midstride, you have to grab hold of anything you can grab (and those sitting near you have to retract their feet quickly before you inadvertently step on them). Some minor disasters cannot be avoided and so far Monique is holding the record, spilling or dropping something on several occasions and having Roger crawl around on the floor around her. Yesterday she even managed to distribute a bowl of lemon cream desert powder relatively evenly over the whole galley and herself. How is it one never remembers to pull out the camera at such a sight?

Now that we have water (full tank thanks to la méthode à la Mars) a shower would be really nice. But as Roger is right in pointing out, having one in these seas would be like playing in a jungle gym.

menu today:
lunch: Amberjack, toast Hawaii, Sauerkraut with pineapple
dinner: Wiener Geschnetzeltes served with de Grendel Kootshuis Sauvignon Blanc

until tomorrow

Klaus
