Raylah - JAWS

There is a tradition on crossing the pond of stopping the boat and everybody going for a mid Atlantic swim. Although I was not happy about it I let my crew do it on a previous crossing although I insisted on them being tied on. However I just received the following email from some friends of ours on another ARC+ yacht today:

"Don't suppose you can pick up our blog on Mailasail but we did have a scary
moment. We have a Watt & Sea Hydrogenerator and it has a habit of slipping
the line that holds it down so it rises and thrashes away on the surface. I
then have to descent the transom, step out and stand on the head with all my
weight at sea level. Luckily Bob spotted it before I went down. A bloody
great big shark (it was massive, I thought it was a whale at first) must
have thought it was lunch and kept darting at it. No one keen on the half
way swim now!!

We are bowling along at a good pace and are keeping up very good daily averages and have moved into second place in our group and are chasing first spot. We must be doing something right, long may it last. After supper ( Baked beans on toast with fried egg on top plus Lea and Perrin sauce) which is taken on the patio (the cockpit) we watch a film (Billy Elliot) under the stars on my laptop. It is strange to look up from the film in which we are engrosed to gaze over the heaving ocean with the moon beams coming directly over the back of the boat, almost another film in itself.

The good ship Raylah heads west
