Day 4
The past 24 hours have been quite eventful.
Firstly, Happy Birthday Mike! Probably the most unusual one he is likely to
have I suspect. But no birthday should pass without cake and sure enough
from the galley at teatime yesterday came another of Dan and Em's culinary
delights - an absolutely delicious banana cake. Sadly no candles but I doubt
they would have faced up to the 25 knots of wind across the decks!
There had also been a noticeable lack of fishing success. Even Doris the
demon lure that I bought at vast expense in Las Palmas was a complete
disappointment yesterday. We have high hopes for Mavis, Doris` big sister
{which Tony paid even more for] later in the trip. But there was great
excitement this morning when two Dorado's were reeled in one after the
other. This was quickly followed a third, a bit of a monster at 14lbs, which
was expertly dispatched and filleted by Dan and served for lunch.
Delicious - it doesn't come much fresher than that! Feeling that he was on a
bit of a roll, Dan put out the line one last time. Sure enough, minutes
later a 4th appeared but hardly in competition with the previous catch so
was thrown back. After all there's only so much blood on the decks in one
day that some of us felt completely comfortable with!
We`re all slowly settling in to life onboard now. The sea state that was
causing quite an awkward roll has eased and the weather is warming up as we
make our way steadily towards the southwest. The mood onboard is good ...
especially as it's now happy hour... must go!
