Timshel - Cape Verde to St Lucia Day 12
Steve sent out the questions for his Nautical Trivia quiz on the evening SSB net. Strange weather during the night - wind died away, then boxed the compass, it rained, then went SW! then finally back to E-SE. And then did it all again. All black as clouds covering moon and stars. Hoisted cruising chute when it got light, but did not seem to set very well in the swell and going too far upwind, then snuffed it for a rain squall. And what a rain squall, the first proper one. As I'd got soaked on the foredeck anyway, grabbed the shampoo and had a shower on deck (note to self: use less shampoo next time), also managed to collect some in bucket hung under the gooseneck, but in fact this had sand in it - still washing the Sahara off the rig. Next decision was a bad one - to deploy chute again to dry it while one of us listened to morning SSB net. It managed to wrap itself round the furled yankee, and took an hour to sort out, and of course it is still wet as it poured throughout. Guess at least it is fresh water this time. So back to plodding along with white sails with pole.
