Hanse Sailor - Day 14 (Saturday): backup gennaker haleyard
Friday: the gennaker went down calmly into the water after a loud
“SCHWONG”-ish sound. The halyard had snapped near the mast. We pulled it up on
deck (the tack, the bottom front of the sail, was still attached to the bow at
the boat) while switching to main sail.
Saturday: unable to fix the gennaker properly (we could not get Andy high
enough to feed through the fixed gennaker halyard as the Jib halyard, used for
Andy’s harness, had a too low exit point in the mast). Instead we used the jib
halyard to bring the gennaker up. It was the set up for the evening and surprise
surprise, one of the gennaker sheet snapped around ten in the evening. So in
with the gennaker and out with the main. We anyway manage to pass Dona Flor
during the night which was a bit interesting since she hadn’t got her AIS
switched on until we passed her.
