Skyelark of London - Day 17 - nearly there
Day 17
So the competition is hotting up - who is going to be the lucky one to steer
Skyelark over the line at the finish of this year's ARC. It's all looking
very close at the moment - Simon, Mike and Tony are all in the running for
their guesses as to what time we will reach our waypoint off the north of St
Lucia. Happily though we should be all set for a daylight arrival which is
always a bonus.
A quiet last day at sea with another gybe this morning. A fellow ARC boat
Rubicon is not far away from us and we have been visited by small swallow -
definitely a sign that we are getting close to land. Very hot today but
luckily the gentle breeze has stayed with us and we are making steady
progress towards the finish line. Much discussion about aircon, beds that
don't move and cold beers today (although thankfully there was still enough
beer left for a final happy hour today).
Bex's lure finally came good today with 2 catches - one was unidentified and
put back and the other (yet another dorado) was also relocated - we were in
the middle of our dinner at the time and no one wanted to get all fishy...
I think I'm right in saying this is the most fish we have ever caught on an
Atlantic crossing - the freezer is almost fuller now than when we left Las
Palmas! Another big surprise has been the lack of any squalls at all - (now
I've said that we may get a monster tonight but it seems unlikely).
So we potter on towards St Lucia and are very much looking forward to a few
drinks, a nice dinner and the opportunity to eat off a plate at a table
that doesn't move.
Thanks for following us on Skyelark's 7th ARC, see you next year!
