LOG 5 Galapagos Marquesas Transit 1
This transit started Tuesday 1st March from
Santa Cruz Puorto Ayora on the Galapagos, and goes directly tol Hiva Oa, one of
the Island in the Marquesas archipelago, a distance of 3000Nm, which is a bit
longer than the Atlantic crossing. This transit will last between three and four
weeks.
We started 1200 hrs on 1 March, all four Tor Odin,
Kirsten, Eric and myself. The wind was good, so we sailed the first 12 hrs, then
the wind was gone. We were motoring the next two days, through the wind still
and rain with the swells from the side. Convergence zone between the south and
the northern trade wind belts, gives a lot of unstable wind from all directions
plus rain showers and squalls. That lasted for nearly 500 Nm till today the
6th March 1200 hrs . Finally we have the stable trade wind from south east between 10 to
15 kts. We had much rain last night as well. We are now underway to Marquesas in
the trade wind. But we have not got any fish, we are beginning to be desperate.
We had a rom punch on Saturday evening to boost up the moral.
