The 1960s song by Lynn Anderson springs to mind today - " I beg your pardon. I never promised you a rose garden, along with the sunshine. There's got to be a little rain sometime! "
And rain we have had. Along with unabated winds. Relentless in fact. We spoke to Nina today by phone and their anchorage is no better. We heard Do Over on the VHF radio speaking to Corango and things are just as bad in Raiatea and Tahaa. So, although patience is not one of our virtues, we're trying to make the best of it.
Every phone, tablet, laptop, chartplotter and navionics chart has been updated using the wifi we can pick up from shore. Every chore and Do List item that can be done, has been done. Elaine has played her saxophone, done her exercises and made various baked goodies. Roy has cooked up a storm in the galley ever night, including a very tasty roast lamb dinner tonight using what fresh veggies we had left plus some canned veggies from th

bilge. He has experimented with various baked breads just about every day and Elaine has been more than happy to be his "Guinea Pig". We've read books and watched movies. We've washed the decks with the fresh rain water. In summary, we are clueless as to what we'll do tomorrow if this weather does not improve!
We can accept that there "has to be a little rain sometime", but this is definitely the worst weather we have experienced in all the sailing we have done since 2008. Even worse than sailing in San Francisco in the winter!
We do, however, take solice in the fact that it could be worse - We could be here on our honeymoon or on a two week holiday like the hotel guests and other tourists who have come to French Polynesia expecting the coconut palms waving in gentle breezes and turquoise waters lapping onto white sandy beaches, under blue, sunny skies. Instead, they have unfortunately had it ruined by this dreadful weather.
