For us 2016 is no longer a leap year. We set sail on Friday evening for our overnight sail to Samoa and arrived Sunday morning. That's right, we crossed the International Date Line on route. Very strange feeling indeed, given that we went from UTC-11 hours to UTC+13 hours and aged by one day in the blink of an eye. We are now 20 hours ahead of Arizona , 12 hours ahead of the UK and 10 hours ahead of South Africa. Trying to find the best time to call family and friends is going to be a challenge, assuming, of course, we can get a data plan or wifi here.
Although we arrived this morning, we have not been ashore, since we are currently quarantined and flying our yellow flag until we can clear in with Customs and Immigration tomorrow. We were, however, able to see people playing on the beach in front of where we are anchored and saw people walking, running and cycling along the breakwater wall off our stern, so we're definitely looking forward to
having a snoop around.
The highlight of our day, however, was arriving in a protected, clean anchorage with good holding, good depth and swing room, which we haven't had since Moorea. It was also lovely to hear Nina on the radio net this morning. Unfortunately we got on a little late and didn't hear Do Over. The good news is that we are all in contact via email, so hopefully we can arrange a chat on the HF at some point in the not too distant future just to catch up. In the interim, we're looking forward to taking a break!
