Paw Paw - Log Day 209: A Food Affair

I think we can say we're now getting tired of fresh mahi mahi, fresh yellowfin tuna, New Zealand lamb and beef, organic fruit and vegetables and would kill for a hormone infested, pink-slime burger with fries!

An unexpected pleasure of staying in Samoa is being exposed to a true international food selection. Roy was up bright and early this morning to head to the fresh fish market, where he purchased some yellowfin tuna. Then, mid-morning he popped out to the little food mart close to the anchorage and returned with oranges from Australia, vanilla waffer biscuits from India, scotch finger biscuits from Fiji, locally grown organic tomatoes and a green pepper, a loaf of freshly baked bread and coconut donuts, all for under $5USD.

It's fair to say the coconut donuts must be an acquired taste. That is a polite way of saying they were actually disgusting, but the rest of his purchase went towards dinner - Tuna marinated in lime juic e and coconut cream with chopped red and white onions, capers, diced tomato and freshly ground black pepper for starters. Our entree comprised barbecued tuna steaks infused with fresh ginger and coconut cream, accompanied by Salad a la Elaine (shredded cabbage and carrots, sliced red onion and any colour peppers that you can find, a segmented orange, tossed in a ginger and sesame seed oil based dressing).

A food affair fit for a mermaid!
