Albatross - YB Connect Message from Fernando Assens
Nov 22 - Third Day at Sea
All is well. Today we had a visitor. A small black sea bird found its way onto our head (toilet). We believe we are at least 200 miles from Africa, the closest land, so either the bird is completely lost or we are!
We also experienced the first equipment failure, at 3:30 am, the spinnaker got wrapped around the rigging and ripped, Lolo and James, on duty, could not bring it down. All hands on deck! We hoisted Chuck up the mast and 30 minutes later we had the spinnaker down. We are now on a beam reach with Jib and Main. We have two other spinnakers and if need be we can always fix this one. The advantages of having Billy, a former sailmaker, on board.
Winds have been steady, from 10-15 knots, on a beam or close reach. We are heading straight west on the advice of the weather router, which makes for a bumpy ride. The old saying "go south until the butter melts and then go west" it's not going to work for us this year!
We continue to eat well. Had cereals for breakfast, scrambled eggs with champignons for lunch, and chicken sauté in garlic and parsley with cuscus for dinner.
