Beltana II - Day Five and counting
The sailing has been pretty good with 15-18 knot winds blowing consistently
from the NE. We are tracking still SW, so the wind is on our tail and this
has not been the most comfortable with rocking and rolling galore. We put
an extra reef in the main again last night to be conservative, but alas it was a
bit dark and I mucked up the reef, then the sail blew onto the lazy jacks too
hard and we broke the little pulley on the mast and one side of the sail bag
came down with a bang, but after gnashing of teeth we sorted it all out.
During all this Paul was hard at it in the galley and produced a heavenly Rogan
Josh with fluffy rice and pappadums too so we were well fed for our
efforts. According to the AIS we seem to be cruising semi in company
with Oceana but we don’t get to see them; a very wide expanse of ocean all to
ourselves. Shook a reef out this morning and now goose winging almost on a
rhum line for St Lucia with a couple of dolphins playing in our bow wave this
morning for a few minutes to keep us company.
This morning was dolphin day – first we had a small pod of two or four
medium sized dolphins playing in the bow, but half an hour later we had a huge
pod of beautiful little small dolphins there must have been over one hunderd
playing with us and showing off and a number of them lept right out of the water
and showed their pink bellies. Ella you might tell me what sort of dolphin they
are – small, grey on top, with leopard patterns on the side and either a pink
belly or a whit belly.
