Beltana II - Day Seven a day of rest
Well we were all excited yesterday after catching a great little fish
(great because it is the first one for Beltana II in the last seven years!!) and
we did indeed enjoy fresh sashimi with waasabi, soy sauce and ginger. But
then things got a lot more uncomfortable and we ended up sailing through a
squall with teeming rain, thank heavens Anna had insisted I buy some of that
waterproof spray stuff and what’s more I had actually applied it in the day we
left port. It worked a treat and we had no leaks through the dodger at
all. Well many of us ended up very wet, with one enterprising young man
enjoying a lovely long shower on the back deck complete with three hair wash
cycles. Talking about cycles we all blame Graham as he hung his washing out to
dry only to get another two rinse cycles quite thoroughly completed.
Dinner was a pasta Bolognese, but now wine last night as another squall was
on its way. It finally hit a little after midnight with JVC and myself on the
helm getting another thorough soaking – great having good wet weather
gear.
This morning we faced a tear in our genoa, so we have spent most of the day
doing a decent repair and sailing under the staysail and full main. We
used p all the sail tap so have resorted to gaffa tap for the balance, but then
Graham, Paul and Johnny have completed the repair with a great row of hand
stitching using a bobbin as well to give a pretty good finish. We will use
sparingly going on once we test it out.
Bye for now – all well and no injuries –
Jono
