Day 11 - Sunday 27th November - Denise
Can't believe its day 11.
Now about my hair....
I have been having really bad hair days, but yesterday my wonderful daughter came to the rescue, we stopped for a swim and Laura appeared with shower gel and shampoo. So when we were finished playing around in the water we both washed our hair and bodies. then used a very small amount of fresh water from the outside tap to rinse, and hey presto...clean hair. Just to make myself feel really well, I proceeded to use my O de Curl and apply the Clairins body moisturiser and I was me again! If only for a short time.
Getting back to my wonderful daughter for a moment, she's only 16 and the only member of the Phelan family who actually dislikes sailing, in fact she has a fear of propellors and is not too crazy about the sea. So when I first asked her to do this trip I was expecting her to say NO... and what she did say was" OFF WITH YE". But she obviously pondered it and discussed it with friends and came back to us with a" yes", bear in mind if she had not we wouldn't be on this trip, don't think we could have both headed off leaving her at home. Its not been easy for her, at times I'm sure she felt she was on board with dinosaurs..she's had no internet, What's app, or FB which must have been a big shock to the system! But she has rowed in and at times had to dig deep to keep her sanity, she even gave me 30 reasons the other day on why not to do the Arc and only 3 resaons to actually do it, and one of these was to get a tan; but seeing her jump in to the sea in the middle of the Atlantic, reminded me what a great young lady she really is.... so from all of us Laura, Thank You for making this trip happen..and though you still will probably never really enjoy sailing, you will never forget this experience! Oh and she can produce a great Bruschetta, which she did for our tea last night.
Now, its my washing day today so hopefully there will be no overboard washing casualties like yesterday!
D
PS from Mairéad - we set off from Cape Verde with the equivalent of three Round Irelands ahead of us..... today we're down to only one left to do! ("Only" one RI - HAH!!!!!)
