Boni Venti - LOG DAY NINE - ANOTHER QUIET DAY
Engine on throughout last night and continued on throughout the day. Very smooth sea state and wind c 5-7 kts. Bright blue sky all day – up to 30 degs & 38% humidity, so hot and sticky.
We were looking at the weather charts this morning to plan likely engine usage and came into the cockpit to find the fishing line had run out completely from the reel – with the engine on we had missed the clicking noise that the reel makes when the line is taken and so we missed what would have been an enormous blue or white marlin......and more importantly we’ve lost all of the fishing line. So always ready to improvise we took a 100m pool of 3mm line, attached a leader line and a lure (only two left now) and are using one of the winches as the reel. A nibble during lunch but we were too slow & the fish sped off. Our fishing skills still need some work.
We put the bimini up over the cockpit just before lunch to provide some protection from the sun, which made life far more comfortable in the cockpit. We’ll keep it up and use the skylights in the top to watch the sails once the wind comes back in.
Will has been working hard on his celestial navigation, taking sightings with the sextant at sunrise, midday and sunset. His current workings have Boni Venti just south of Bermuda – he still has some work to do........
As we are in relaxing, summer mode, today’s photo shows Karen & Jonathan mixing sundowners in the saloon – making the most of light winds!
Bone Venti over and out.
Jonathan.
